Parent Organization: Volunteers In Action
The Food Salvage program provides a healthy meal to hungry people in the Burlington community every Sunday evening. Created in response to the absence of Salvation Army dinners on Sundays, the program usually serves between 80and 100+ people each Sunday evening at the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf (228 N. Winooski Ave).
As a volunteer, you would meet us at the Food Shelf at 4:00 p.m. or get a ride with us there. We will prep dinner until 5:30, when we serve. Clients file through, eat, and then we clean up. We usually finish with all of the cooking, serving, and cleaning by about 7, at which point everyone will be dropped off at their dorms!
All year round Food Salvage is looking for volunteers to come down and help out! E-mail us for more information, and we can put you on the listserv to get you involved!
